Driver monitoring

A DMS camera for driver safety

Advanced technology that tracks driver behaviour and warns of fatigue and distraction in real time — for fewer violations and accidents.

DMS driver monitoring camera mounted in the cabin

The DMS fatigue-detection camera is an advanced technology that significantly improves road safety. Using cameras that track driver behaviour, the system detects early signs of fatigue such as yawning or prolonged blinking, mobile phone use, smoking in the cabin and unfastened seatbelts.

The presence of this system in vehicles reduces the likelihood of traffic violations and accidents.

What the system detects

  • Signs of fatigue — yawning and prolonged eye closure
  • Mobile phone use while driving
  • Smoking in the driver's cabin
  • Unfastened seatbelt
  • Driver distraction and inattention
Test results

What the camera recorded on a single vehicle

We tested the system on a commercial vehicle driven by professional drivers. During the test period it recorded 164 situations rated as risky driver behaviour.

164risky situations in total
47mobile phone use
44yawning
43fatigue
30smoking in the cabin
26.22%share of fatigue warnings

When the risk peaks

  • 17:00–20:00Highest incidence of fatigue21 events
  • 22:00–23:00Highest incidence of yawning8 events
  • 06:00–08:00Second yawning peak9 events

Results of a single test period on one commercial vehicle; they illustrate the types of events the system records and are not a guarantee of results under different operating conditions.

How it works

The camera is mounted in the driver's cabin, in the front of the vehicle, to track movements of the face, eyes and head without distracting the driver.

If the system detects signs of fatigue, distraction or unconsciousness (e.g. prolonged eye closure), it issues a warning — an audible signal, a message on the display, and seat vibration where the optional module is fitted. At the same time, alerts are sent in real time to the dispatch centre, so timely action can prevent a possible accident or violation.

Why it pays off

  • The mere presence of monitoring encourages greater driver concentration and focus on the road
  • Lower accident risk through early warning about fatigue and inattention
  • The data also helps in assessing and selecting the drivers who operate your fleet
  • Warnings reach the dispatch centre in real time, so a response is possible immediately
